Our Untappd Journey

When we entered the craft beer world, we took over a traditional cask & bottle focused brewery and over the course of 5 years have been transforming it into a keg and can focused craft brewery.
As part of this transition we have really focused on our Untappd scores and achieved one of the fastest growing scores in the U.K.
We are now at the heady heights of 3.63/5, which might seem relatively low compared to the likes of Deya at over 4/5 but strong in the context of breweries that do both cask & keg (cask beer always scores lower on Untappd). We tend to benchmark ourselves against the likes of Dark Star (3.59), Thornbridge (3.6) and Burning Sky (3.7), who all brew a fair proportion of cask beer.
It seems fashionable in the craft beer community at the moment to diss Untappd for a variety of reasons. However for us, the overly low and overly high scores seem to average out and tend to give you a pretty good idea of how good or not a beer or brewery is.
What do you think? Is Untappd a valid reference point or just a trainspotters delight?
